Introduction to Digital Media and what will be happening before the end of term:
Adobe packages which we will be learning/using:
- Illustrator
- Photoshop
- Muse
Why not Dreamweaver?
- Dreamweaver is more complex than muse and not essential for the unit. It's good to keep to the basics for the moment as it can get a little full on later.
Raster vs Vector:
Photoshop is raster and is dealing with a document which has pixels. Mainly used for photography. Used for printing.
World of the web - Pixels per inch (ppi),
World of print - Dot per inch (dpi).
(72 PPI standard images downloaded from the web). (300-360 PPI for standard printing)
Illustrator is vector and is to create graphics. Poster images, logo's, website graphics etc..
ACTIVITY:
Take your illustrator page and open it in photoshop will rasterise the image.
Good to have small images on websites to cater to all audiences in their location with whatever internet speeds they have. 'Lean website'. If someone has a poor internet connection it will take a while to download the image if it is a large image of incredibly high quality. This will annoy the audience and they may leave the site if it is taking ages to load. This I why small images are best.
Colours are identified by: #
RGB - web world (72 ppi) - lights (mixed = white)
CMYK - print (300 dpi) - inks (mixed = dark)
Websites to help with learning about websites:
- Lynda.com - UAL FREE
- W3schools.com - FREE
Our website will go live for public consumption and they will require an about us video, logo and 5 pages.
WE CANNOT USE OTHER PEOPLES IMAGES WITHOUT PUBLIC CONSUMPTION
Good tips for when I will be taking images from google for my website (following laws and copyright issues:
- Go to Google images - search the description of the image I want - go to tools - do to modification - select the one about being allowed for sharing/modification so I can take them.
- Some only allow you to be use them only if you add a filter or 'photoshop' them.
- Search for copyright free image websites for lots of images if needed.
We have to create a learning diary for this project which is going to be created on Workflow and this is good for our reflection Essay which is 1000 words long.
HTML - web - HYPER TEXTED MARKUP LANGUAGE. invested language created by Sir Tim Bernes Lee.
Meta - data - photograph for example (time, location, camera brand, etc...) all data imbedded in the camera in every photo taken.
Languages of the internet:
HTML
CSS
Visual basics
Java
Java script
CAA
J Query
PHP & MYSQL
Things to consider when creating a website:
- who is it aimed at?
- What information is displayed?
- Demographic research
- how will it appeal to the audience?
At the end of the lesson we were introduced to the topic titles and had to make a decision on the group we would be in.
The topics for our project are:
- Computer evolution
- Mobile phones & tablets
- 3D printers and printing
- Robotics & artificial intelligence
- World Wide Web
In that lesson me and Kate Hardy decided to become a group and the decision from the topic is Mobile Phones.
After the session I personally went out and did research into websites, capabilities and target audiences. These Websites were used to help my research:
After doing my research I was inclined to choose the target audience to be Millennials as that is a target audience of people my own age, however I thought that may have been very easy to get distracted and not create an effective website with the aimed initial intention. therefore my decision is to create a website aimed at Teens/Kids as the target audiences isn't too complex to appeal to and I think it appear easier to create a website which gets the message across.
Later this week I did some research into the cost of having Adobe software. In conclusive I figured out the programs are rather expensive and I would be better off paying a monthly package for the content as that's much more efficient for my money.
