Week 9: Final Week:

Moving into the final week everything has come into place with great effort and many hours of work in design/development but we are finally finished and complete.

The last things to do are:

  • Write the 1000 word Essay
  • Upload my Individual contribution sheets into a workflow page
  • Upload the published website into a workflow page

Taking my notes from last week and what I produced on my workflow page I have made all the final changes to website, it looks smooth, professional and great in my opinion. It took me another 5 hours of work to do all of these things because I made a lot of minor changes in places which took longer to do than expected, however, I am happy with this because it has definitely paid off.

Me and Kate sat down and decided on the final fonts for our website to be. They are:

  • Berlin Sans FB demi bold - for the 'TEEN HOTLINE' as it is playful, fun, chunky and readable.
  • Kristen ITC - for the writing on our navigation bar as it looks like hand writing, it's too thick and looks really cool when the glow is on when you roll the mouse over.
  • Bell gothic STD black for the website content as it stands out but it isn't too thick where it isn't readable

All the fonts we decided on are very similar and follow a child-like handwriting style as it appeals to our target audience well.

Finalising the Website:

To finalise the website I need to start by changing the navigation bar as it was looking so bad when you hover the mouse over the clouds ad the red glow disappear. Due to not being able to get around this issue I decided to change the glow to go over the text when the text is rolled over by the mouse. I really like this contrast again the white background which is the cloud and the contrast to the purple glow on the outside cloud of the current page's button. This was an easy change to make and didn't take me too long to do which is great as I was running out of time this week.

Moving onto individual pages and how they look different...

Starting with the 'Home' page. You can see that on the home page not much has changed much, the biggest change being the font changing to fit in with the ones me and Kate decided on. With the 'Home' page we have inserted our video in from YouTube because it was made, looks awesome, its super cheesy and fits the purpose. The other change is the licence free images have been inserted into the slideshow and they're looking pretty good.

Moving onto the 'Teen Safety' page. As you can also see, the fonts are added into this page and it has had plenty of work gone into it since last week as it now looks smooth. We added in the tabbed panel, inserted the now paragraphed text Kate did and I decided to change the font size/colour of each tab when it is the selected tab as well as when it isn't (which is now part of our 'uniform' for our tabs to keep the consistency on each page), this is because the premade layout wasn't fitting for our website in my opinion. It now looks a lot better and fits in easier.

The next page is our 'Cyber Bullying' page. This webpage has seen quite a lot of time put into it as me and Kate needed to fill the space between the text content and the social media banner with something which is fitting and relevant. We decided to put in links to children's charities who deal with serious cyber bullying issues and children's wellbeing better than us as it is highly relevant, filled the space and makes our website look more legitimate. To do this I had to download licence free images of these companies logo's, insert them into the website (within a white rectangle with curved edges to fit in with our websites 'uniform') and hyperlink them to the websites of the charities. As you can also see, the website also has a tabbed panel of content too. I did end up moving the website graphic from the 'Parent/Guardian Safey' page as me and Kate both decided if we move it one page left it lets the website flow better when going through the site. This website is starting to take shape into how our website is meant to look and the other two pages will be easy to finalise.

Our second to last webpage is our 'Parent/Guardian Safety' page. You can see that the graphic is gone and replaced with another slideshow of images which is in the same place as the one on the 'Home' page to add consistency. You'll also be able to notice the 'uniformed' tabbed panel inserted into this page which is helping our website flow correctly and smoothly. We had a bit too much text for 3 paragraphs/tabs as well as some dead space below the tabbed panel so we decided to display an important message there for the parents/guardians which is still there no matter which tab they may be reading. This works well as it allows our website to not only have our content displayed in tabbed panels.

Finally we have our 'Contact Us' page and this one is probably the most different from last week as we have changed to the tabbed panel but I also thought we didn't need to have our social media names written down, it I aimed at a younger audience who are all about social media so they know what the icon social media page is. To create this I had to find licence free images of each of our social media pages insert them into the correct tab and then hyperlink them to our official social media pages. This didn't take too long but it is super effective as when you click on the social media tab they pop and stand out a lot more than having website hyperlinks to our pages. I also played around with the simple contact form and improved it by making the 'Comments' box larger and to the right of 'Name' 'Email Address' box. This looks a lot more pleasing on the eye in my opinion and also fills the gap between the tabbed panel and the social media banner really well.

Reflection of work done:

Now the website is finalised, finished done and complete we have published it:

I have all 9 weeks of workflow pages, a page for my individual contribution, a page for my website link and a page for my 1000 word essay.

I have now completed all work for Workflow too (except the 1000 word Essay which is going to be started and completed straight after this).

I feel very relieved and happy with what I have been able to do/produce this project as I have taken 3 years out of education and learning which has been scary but I have done it to in my opinion, a high quality. I have also been working 2 jobs since the beginning of October which means I work full time and this is so I can support myself at university. This project has taught me a lot and I am looking forward to what the rest of the course has on offer for myself.
